Slashers of Tlorshab by Brainwhacker Slashers of Tlorshab by Brainwhacker
Okay, so, this is for the Seventh Sanctum "Monster Madness" contest. I used the Dark Minion generator, and got The Slashers of Tlorshab, so, this is what I interpret that as. A three armed dude with giant knives.

The way I see it, Slashers are golems, constructs, or homonculi. They're kept together by a soul in torment and elemental fire. Their third arm doesn't function, except for in combat, wherein it starts to slash and tear at the nearest living thing. Being that Slashers aren't technically alive, they don't count. So, there's nothing to say that they couldn't work together. In d20 rules, I'd estimate natural armor, maybe +10, str +4, dex +4, something similar. Construct traits. In d10 I'd say ignoring wound penalties, +1 str, dex, or stam, and no need to really breathe, so immunity to poisons of all kinds. Probably a speed bonus as well.

Anyways, that's my entry. Pencil first, then inkwell pen, probably around 3-4 hours. 110 lb/8.5X11" recycled paper. Fingers crossed.

Now that the contest is over, I can comment - and remember we've got a new one already!

I liked this one - it's got a truly inhuman, monstrous senese. I'd have liked to seen it colored, and a bit more varied linework to give it a sense of depth.

Yeah, I figured that's what made it a non-qualifying entry.

Actually I don't do the judging - the winners of the last contest always judge the next. I just comment on it.

My personal take is I would have liked it more detailed, because it's just pretty damn freaky, and I liked it. It looks like something that'd come out of a modern neo-Lovecraft story.

Well, I know you don't do judging, it's just that I was certain that's what made it a non-qualifying entry. I did some looking, seems the other winners of the contests I'd seen over at seventh sanctum were colored and had backgrounds and dynamic stuff all up in them. So, since I can't really do backgrounds, I have to practice before I can crack my knuckles at the newest contest.

As a side note, though, I'm really glad you like it. That's high praise coming from someone who sees so much artwork, hehe. I've actually never read Lovecraft past a couple paragraphs. Seemed a little dry to me, honestly. Also, I take it as a compliment that a piece of my art was freaky. Seriously makes my day. Hehe.

You've got an odd aesthetic that intrigues me. It more reminds me of ALBUM cover styles - a mix of horror-metal and gothic, really.

hmm... interesting. I'd never thought of it that way. probably because I get most of my inspirations from my nightmares. and I always like new ways to think, so thank you.

You know, we should talk - I do some dream work myself, and I'd like to find out what you do. Do you keep a dream diary?

No, but I have a very good memory when it comes to my nightmares, as they have caused some anxiety problems and my fear of the dark at age 21. I'll gladly talk though.
